2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better

#Chevrolet #CamaroZL1 – 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better : Sometimes, the best things are already right in front of us. In the case of the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, its best track time has come from the use of a six-speed manual transmission rather than the recently developed ten-speed auto that apparently shifts quicker than Porsche’s renowned dual-clutch PDK.

That’s according to a Motor Trend comparison which pit the manual and auto versions of the same ZL1 against each other at the Willow Springs Raceway. The manual version ended up being 0.38 seconds quicker than the auto.

While a negligible difference, this result makes a strong case in favor of preserving the manual transmission especially when it comes to track battles. Of course driver skill has to be taken into account – sucky drivers would just give the ZL1 a bad name if made to row their own gears.

However, another factor that puts the manual option ahead of the auto is fuel efficiency. Having ten speeds is supposed to make the ZL1 a smoother performer, but official EPA estimates afford it only 15mpg combined, 1mpg less than the manual.

So it looks like having more speeds on a newer transmission hasn’t really done it for Chevrolet. We wonder how Ford would fare with its own ten-speed auto in the upcoming Mustang.

Microsoft Updates Windows 10 Store App with Interactive Notifications

#Windows10 #Windows10StoreApp – Microsoft Updates Windows 10 Store App with Interactive Notifications : The Windows Store app has just received an important update on Windows 10 that brings some pretty helpful improvements, including interactive notifications that allow users to launch the app or pin it to Start.

Currently at version 11703.1000.156.0 and released for Fast ring insiders, the new Windows Store app comes with new notifications that allow users to interact with the apps they install faster than before.

Previously, once an app got installed on Windows 10, users received a notification telling them the install process came to an end, and a click or tap on this notification launched the app instantly. Starting with this update, however, the notification comes with two separate options, namely launch and pin to Start, both of which are displayed in the Action Center as well.

In addition to these new notifications, the Windows Store also comes with a new progress bar displaying the download speed and the size, with the new design looking a bit sleeker as compared to the original design that needed more space on the screen.

New “share” option

And last but not least, there’s a new share option displayed for each app that lets you send a link to one of your contacts. This is an option that already exists in rival app stores, such as the one belonging to Apple, so it’s a good thing that Microsoft is now releasing it as well.

Given that this update is currently available for insiders only, retail users will receive it at a later time, though we expect this to happen with the Creators Update’s debut on April 11. Microsoft has improved several of its apps with help from insiders and the release of the Creators Update is the moment when retail users would be able to try them out as well, so the new Store update comes just at the right time.

For what it’s worth, the Creators Update will also launch later today for users who want to do the update manually with the Windows 10 Update Assistant.

Microsoft Reveals Windows 10 Creators Update High DPI Improvements

#WIndows10 #Windows10CreatorUpdate – Microsoft Reveals Windows 10 Creators Update High DPI Improvements : One of the biggest annoyances in Windows 10 Anniversary Update affected high DPI displays, as many Win32 programs were rendered incorrectly and thus caused issues such as blurry fonts, incorrect size for desktop icons, or tooltips that looked odd even though they were generated by the OS.

With the Creators Update, however, these problems might finally be fixed, as Microsoft spent a considerable amount of time trying to improve performance on high DPI displays.

In most of the cases, in order for an application to be rendered correctly in Windows 10, developers need to update their software to include the most recent technologies that Microsoft implemented in Windows 10, so the best thing you can do is to get in touch with app makers and ask for updates.

Microsoft says that it was particularly focused on improvements for desktop application developers, and the company details them in a lengthy blog post here.

But as far as end users are concerned, there are a bunch of new features that can also help them deal with problems experienced with apps that are rendered incorrectly on high DPI displays.

Helpful option for end users

For example, starting with the Creators Update, every process has new options in the Properties screen that allow users to change DPI settings and override the default behavior by forcing the scaling to be performed by the application, the system, or by a special enhanced mode generated by the system.

Microsoft explains that the “System (enhanced)” DPI scaling mode was developed to deal with apps that simply can’t render correctly, and while it proved to be efficient in many cases, there are some limitations, so it can’t scale GDI+ and DX content, bitmap-based UI elements won’t look crisp, and users won’t be able to determine when it’s recommended to enable this mode.

“There is new functionality in the Creators Update that results in text and primitives rendering crisply on high-DPI displays for GDI-based apps only. For applications that are GDI-based Windows can now DPI scale these on a per-monitor basis. This means that these applications will, magically, become per-monitor DPI aware. Now keep in mind that this solution is not a silver bullet,” Microsoft says.

Desktop icons have also been updated to be properly rendered on high DPI scales, and Office 2016 also received improvements in this regard, so end users should feel a big difference after installing the Creators Update.

The Creators Update will launch today via the Windows Update Assistant and will become available for more users on April 11 via Windows Update.

DDR5 To Offer Twice As Much Bandwidth Than The DDR4

#DDR5 #DDR4 – DDR5 To Offer Twice As Much Bandwidth Than The DDR4 : Double Data Rate version 5, or DDR5 for short, is the newest version of the volatile memory system from JEDEC. The new memory system is claimed to offer twice as much bandwidth than the previous version along with reduced overall power consumption.

New memory module to offer twice the bandwidth than DDR4 with better power efficiency. Random Access Memory (RAM) is one of the many important components of a computer system. Although not many made switched from using DDR3 to DDR4, this will not hinder electronic standardization governing body JEDEC from releasing DDR5.

The fifth version of the DDR volatile memory system, in summary, will offer improved system utilization and better channel efficiency. JEDEC claims that the new memory module will be able to provide increased bandwidth per pin, capacity, and power efficiency.

The DDR4 memory module has an average transfer speed of around 12 gigabytes per second and each module can hold as much as 16 gigabytes of data with a 64-bit data bus width. It is claimed that the new memory module will be able to offer a lot more than the DDR4 can although JEDEC has yet to release an official list of specifications.

According to AnandTech, the new memory module by JEDEC is said to have a maximum capacity of 32 gigabytes per module which is twice than that of the DDR4. Theoretically, the new memory module will have a data bandwidth of 51.2 gigabytes per second on a 62-bit data bus which is four times more than the previous version.

Comparing the two versions further, the DDR4 is said to have a transfer rate of 3200 MTs per second. The new memory module is expected to offer twice that at 6200 MTs per second.

Until a formal announcement on what the DDR5 can really offer, enthusiasts will just have to do with speculations. JEDEC is looking to present the new memory module at the Server Forum event in Santa Clara in June of this year.

Asus Releases Two New Cards: The ROG Strix 1080 OC And ROG Strix 1060 OC To Have Faster Memory

#Asus #ROGStrix1080 – Asus Releases Two New Cards: The ROG Strix 1080 OC And ROG Strix 1060 OC To Have Faster Memory : Recently the GTX 1080Ti was launched to various international markets, and now reports are coming in about an overclocked NVIDIA GTX 1080 and 1060 graphic card. NVIDIA has recently green-lighted manufacturers to use faster GDDR5 memory, and now custom card manufacturers like ASUS are doubling on this.

The result is an overclocked Asus ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 OC and a 1060 OC, both having faster memory than the reference founder’s edition GTX 1080 and GTX 1060. The difference between the new models of Asus ROG and the older models of the Asus ROG is the speed. Other GTX 1080 cards are running at 10Gbps RAM speed, and the new Asus ROG Strix is running on 11 Gbps RAM speed.

Asus has given a lot of thought to cooling, which might mean that the new 1080 might be factory overclocked, considering it comes with the OC badge. As of now, Asus has made no comments about the clock speed.

Asus has given the card three fans for cooling. On top of that, the card comes with an industry first MaxContact cooling solution, which actually makes use of copper heat spreader directly in contact with the GPU. The card also comes with a massive aluminum heat sink and dissipates the heat fairly easily.

The other card in the Asus ROG Strix lineup is the GTX 1060 OC. Once again, it is unclear if the card is factory overclocked. The card has a GDDR5 RAM of 6GB running at 9 Gbps, which is an improvement from the earlier 8 Gbps. This card gets a cooling solution in the form of two fans and Asus’s Direct CU II technology. It also gets an aluminum heat sink and Asus claims it cools the GPU 30% better than the reference GTX 1060.

There haven’t been any news on price or when it will be available, and the cards aren’t on Newegg or Amazon. However, Videocardz.com suggests that the graphic cards might be released by the middle of May.

2017 Honda Civic Si Making A Debut Via YouTube? Accidental Or Planned?

#Honda #HondaCivicSi – 2017 Honda Civic Si Making A Debut Via YouTube? Accidental Or Planned? : Honda has just announced the debut of the all-new 2017 Honda Civic Si. The latest flagship will be introduced tomorrow, Thursday, April 6. Apparently, the debut will transpire via YouTube. Was it accidental or planned?

The upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Si has been confirmed to make its debut tomorrow. Honda made the announcement through its official Twitter account revealing the April 6 launch.

Interestingly, Honda’s announcement came out a week after an alleged specs for the 2017 Honda Civic Si circulated on the web. As we have reported last week, an email update from Honda was received by a certain Rickyg0731, who claims to have received the details of torque for the new Civic Si.

CivicX.com posted the statement of Rickyg0731 stating the details of the email from Honda. According to the latter, the email specified that the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic Si will have a turbocharged engine that can deliver 192 lb-ft of torque.

Following this email leak, Honda made an official announcement that they are now ready to reveal the specs of the upcoming Civic Si. It can also be noted that the new Civic Si is also highly anticipated to come out in the upcoming New York Auto Show, which is set next week, from April 14 to 23.

Did Honda suddenly plan to introduce the new Civic Si prior to the huge auto show in New York? Why is the automaker making an exclusive debut for the new model? Do the leaked specs preempt the debut?

Furthermore, reports also mentioned that the upcoming April 6 debut will happen through a video to be posted on the official Youtube account of Honda. It is quite intriguing to note that the debut will transpire via video clip and not through the usual grand launch on an auto show.

Whatever the reasons may be, sure the automaker has prepared something that is expected to make a greater impact through the YouTube launch. Check out this YouTube link tomorrow, April 6, to witness the debut of the 2017 Honda Civic Si.

2018 Honda Accord To Debut With Revolutionary Steering

#Honda #HondaAccord – 2018 Honda Accord To Debut With Revolutionary Steering : A couple of months ago, Honda revealed that they are hastening the development of the next-gen Accord and this is because of the tenth-generation Civic.

The latter came out 2 years ago and it became an instant success due to having the best balance in power and fuel economy. The Civic’s attractiveness has got many adopting the car instead of the Accord thus explaining why Honda is desperate for a new-generation model.

Well, Honda teased yesterday that the next-gen Accord will be coming out later this year and one of the new things that will feature on the car is a highly-sophisticated steering wheel.

As how you can see in the video above, the steering wheel is filled with emoticons. Pressing on them will allow the Accord to create a unique sound that will alert other drivers based on the emotion selected.

But before you get overexcited for the feature, you should know that the entire content above is nothing more than a prank being played by Honda. We fell for it the first time as we forgot it was April Fool’s day. Sorry to get you involved.

Mercedes-Benz EQ-Class At Risk Of Being Left Out

#Mercedes #MercedesBenzEQ – Mercedes-Benz EQ-Class At Risk Of Being Left Out : Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that they will be launching a number of electric vehicles before 2025 and their first ever product will be called the EQ-Class.

This may sound like great news if you are a fan of Mercedes but the only unfortunate thing about it is that the carmaker is pretty late in the EV scene. Rival makes have already established their EV program with a variety of cars to choose from hence Mercedes is playing catch-up in this department.

Today, Mercedes revealed that they are already feeling the heat of being late and have called upon their developers to hasten the development of the EQ-Class. Mercedes announced that the new goal is to launch the EQ-Class in 2022 rather than 2025.

With the new projected release date, Mercedes won’t find themselves too far behind rival makes and it will give them a big chance to catch up on the sales front. The EQ-Class promises an electric experience where luxury does not compromise driving range. Are you excited?

Chevrolet Bolt: Is It Just A Spec-Sheet Hero?

#Chevrolet #ChevroletBolt – Chevrolet Bolt: Is It Just A Spec-Sheet Hero? : Things are not looking so good for the all-new Chevrolet Bolt as the EV hatchback from GM is unable to enjoy an impactful debut in the market. The Bolt showed signs of life on the sales front in both January and February but March saw the figures going south-bound.

Some are blaming it on GM for being sluggish in pushing out the Bolt on a nationwide basis but this is not the only issue for the car. It appears that the public is now learning on the cons of having a Bolt EV and it repelled them away from owning the car.

Those that have seated inside the Chevrolet Bolt have been loud in criticizing the comfort aspects of the vehicle. The seats feel cheap and they are too narrow and stiff for a comfortable journey.

Then there is the fact that the price is perceived as too high by the average consumers. Other points to note include the lacking in ability for a long road-trip and the lacking of real fast charging network.

With all these variables combined, it prevents the Bolt EV from making it big in the auto industry. This is such a waste as the Bolt is already an attractive vehicle on the specs sheet. The car can offer 238 miles of driving and it also has a useful infotainment system.

GM better buck up or risk having the Bolt being turned into just another spec-sheet hero.

BioWare promises to improve Mass Effect: Andromeda over time

#MassEffect #MassEffectAndromeda – BioWare promises to improve Mass Effect: Andromeda over time : The criticisms of Mass Effect: Andromeda have been numerous and emphatic so far. BioWare said today that it has heard that feedback, and in response, the company laid out a plan to fix the game’s technical issues and improve its overall quality.

In a post on the Mass Effect website, BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn stopped short of issuing any sort of apology for Andromeda’s problems, but said the studio “has been poring over your comments and feedback, looking to discover what you like about the game, as well as areas we can evolve or improve.”

Flynn noted that BioWare is releasing a patch this Thursday, April 6, that will fix a number of bugs and introduce some improvements that fans have been asking for. The version 1.05 patch will resolve problems such as saves not working properly, incorrect playback of music or voice-overs, Ryder becoming stuck in a pose, and Ryder using a zig-zag running animation.

The update will also make it possible to skip ahead when traveling between planets in the galaxy map, which addresses one of the biggest complaints from players. Other changes include increases in the inventory limits, better-looking eyes for humans and asari, cheaper and more accessible remnant decryption keys, and “improved lip-sync and facial acting during conversations, including localized [voice-over].”

That last issue has made Andromeda something of a laughingstock among the gaming community; GIFs and clips of poor facial expressions and animations flooded social media shortly after the game became available on EA Access and Origin Access.

Andromeda has also taken heat for deeper problems, and Flynn said BioWare is working to address those issues in patches that the studio is planning to release “over the next two months,” as well as technical problems.

People playing as a male Ryder have complained about the lack of same-sex romances, and one of the items on the docket is “improvements to male romance options” for the character. BioWare is also working on “adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams.” Abrams is a transgender woman, and the writing of her character has been roundly criticized for being out of step with the actual experiences and preferences of transgender individuals. Other planned updates to Andromeda include further improvements to cinematics and animations, more variety in the character creator, and additional upgrades to characters’ hair and appearance.

BioWare is also considering adding free cosmetic items to the single-player campaign. As for Andromeda’s multiplayer component, the studio plans to add to the APEX missions that are currently available in the game, along with new maps, characters and weapons.

“We want to hear from you about your experiences, both what you love about the game and what you’d like to see changed,” said Flynn. “We’re listening, and we’re committed to partnering with you as we continue to explore the Andromeda galaxy together.”
