5G Wireless Technology Is Now Official, With a Logo

#5GWireless #WirelessTechnology – 5G Wireless Technology Is Now Official, With a Logo  : Rubber-stamping the much-speculated name to the next generation wireless communication technology, the 3GPP cellular standards group has officially adopted the term ‘5G’ going forward. The ‘Organizational Partners’ have approved the new logo of 5G along with the name, which will become the forthcoming wireless standard. The new 5G logo is derived from the LTE Advanced Pro design, however forgoing the general recurrence of the 4G LTE branding.

The 3GPP cellular standards group said that the idea behind this derived logo “is to keep a familiar design aspect with the use of plain black text and textured waves, but to make the logo stronger and sharper – ready for use on the new radio and next generation core specifications for 5G.” As we said, the 5G logo bears ‘waves’ over it, same as what we see over the LTE Advanced Pro version.

5G wireless technology specifications are still being finalised and it is expected to be ready by late 2018. This is also when the first of the imminent phases – Phase 1 – will roll out, while the Phase 2 is due for completion in the year 2020. As we said, the definition of 5G is yet to be given by the group – however it’s said to aim more on bandwidth rather than high speeds like 4G. We have already been hearing a lot about 5G to be more IoT-specific, which we can expect to kickstart the ‘Internet of Things’ era. “The use of the 5G logo on 3GPP specification cover sheets is intended to help the industry to identify at which point in time 5G features will appear,” said the 3GPP in a release.

The advancement of 5G will begin after the Phase 1 rolls out across the globe, which hopefully includes India in the roadmap. Several telecom companies, chipset manufacturers like Intel, Qualcomm, Nokia and Samsung have already unveiled their devices that will support the upcoming technology.

YouTube Go Beta Finally Available; Saving Videos To Watch Offline Now Possible

#YouTube #YouTubeGo – YouTube Go Beta Finally Available; Saving Videos To Watch Offline Now Possible : The YouTube Go beta app that was unveiled back in September has finally been launched by Google. It is now available in the Google Play Store.

What Does The YouTube Go Beta App Do?

This new app from Google allows its users to save videos to their device’s internal memory storage or to their SD card for offline viewing, making it the best and most effective way of reducing mobile data usage. Essentially, the new app works like the regular YouTube app, the only difference is that when a user selects a video to view, the YouTube Go beta will ask the user if they want to download it or not.

The Available Resolutions

The YouTube Go beta app offers two video resolutions only; “basic quality” and “standard quality.” The basic quality looks like 144p – a little painful to watch when used to watching HD quality videos. As for the standard quality, it is somewhere around 360p.

Designed For Slow Internet Speeds

There is a reason as to why the YouTube Go beta app does not have access to HD resolution. The reason is because this new app was designed primarily for regions with comparatively slower internet speeds on devices with small storage capacity, hence the 144p and 360p resolution.

Other Features Of The YouTube Go Beta App

Aside from downloading YouTube videos, the YouTube Go beta lets its users share the offline videos that have been saved on their device’s internal memory or SD card via Bluetooth. However, Google noted that this feature will require access to the internet to perform a 15kb security check once the video is received.

Not Available In All Regions (Yet)

Technically, though it has indeed been launched, the YouTube Go beta app is not yet available to all regions, only a number of regions have access to this. And if an interest user wants to check it out to know whether it is available in the area, here are the links.

Netflix is working on a Castlevania series

#Netflix #Internet – Netflix is working on a Castlevania series : Netflix is chipping away at another unique arrangement in view of Konami’s Castlevania establishment. The organization declared this today.

Netflix is chipping away at a Castlevania series

The news was covered in a public statement conveyed after an event for the organization’s forthcoming slate of new stuff. It was held in New York City. Netflix didn’t declare who might officially create the Castlevania arrangement. However, Adi Shankar (maker on Dredd) affirmed on Facebook he would be co-running the arrangement. The initial segment of the primary season is relied upon to be discharged for the current year. Acclaimed author Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, Iron Man) has apparently written the first season.

Before the declaration artist Michael Hirsh told the Globe and Mail that his new studio, Wow Unlimited Media, would group with Netflix to make the vivified arrangement. As indicated by Hirsh, the show will be focused on towards a more youthful group of people. That is intriguing considering Shankar depicted the show as dark and ironical. It accompanies the goal to “flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”

In December, Adventure Time official maker Fred Seibert implied on a podcast that he was taking a shot at a TV arrangement about a prominent video game. His studio, Frederator, claims the rights to Castlevania. Be that as it may, nothing was affirmed by Seibert or Netflix at the time.

Microsoft Gets Serious About Customer Protection, Launches Microsoft Azure IP Advantage

#microsoft #MicrosoftAzureIP – Microsoft Gets Serious About Customer Protection, Launches Microsoft Azure IP Advantage : Software giant Microsoft is expanding the patent-lawsuit protection it offers to its Azure cloud computing customers, which aims to keep IP litigation from curtailing the adoption of the company’s cloud services, Microsoft Azure. The company made the announcement this week.

Microsoft Introduces Patent Protection For Azure Cloud Customers

According to Wall Street Journal, which got the full story about the latest Azure moves, the Redmond-based software company is launching a new program called the Microsoft Azure IP Advantage, which promised legal indemnification protections against all sort of intellectual property (IP) risks for using the company’s Azure services.

The program, which the first of its kind according to Forrester Research, provides uncapped indemnification coverage, including payment for legal costs, to Azure customers that develop cloud applications using open-source technologies such as Hadoop, a framework used to manage big data.

Microsoft said the Azure IP Advantage program has three basic elements. The first one is the IP protections for the company’s patented technologies, which also include open source technologies, that used in Azure cloud services.

The second one is the pool of patents for doing legal defensive purposes. Here, Microsoft’s customers can pick one patent to use for countersuing purposes. Finally, Microsoft has introduced an arrangement called a “springing license” which involved patent transfers to non-practicing entities.

Currently, Microsoft lists over 7,500 patents available as part of the ‘patent pick system’, but the company plans to make 10,000 patents available to Azure customers who qualify for IP Advantage program. The goal is to help them defend themselves against baseless patent lawsuits.

Pricing And Availability

As mentioned by Microsoft on the Azure IP Advantage website, all Azure customers are said to be automatically covered by Azure IP Advantage. There will be no sign-up process and defense is already included in standard customer terms.

However, the patent pick system, which mentioned earlier, along with the springing license system have some requirements.

For the patent pick system, customers must have Azure usage of $1,000 per month over the past three months and don’t have any records of a patent infringement lawsuit against another Azure customer for their Azure workloads in the last two years.

For the springing license, customers will need to have around $1,000 per month of Azure usage over the past three months.

Microsoft Azure customers such as Toyota and Mattel are already using this coverage for their own Azure-based services. Mattel is currently developing a child monitoring device called Aristotle that includes a voice-activated speaker and Mattel uses Azure for those services.

Users can read more about the IP Advantage program and other requirements at the Microsoft Azure IP Advantage web portal.

In addition to the IP Advantage portal, Microsoft has also made the entire Azure FAQ available online for getting additional information about the Azure services.

KickassTorrents Trial Kicks Off in US Court

#KickassTorrents #Torrents – KickassTorrents Trial Kicks Off in US Court : KickassTorrents finally went to court this week against the US Department of Justice, months after the site went dark.

According to TorrentFreak, the legal team behind Artem Vaulin, the alleged KickassTorrents owner went head to head with the US Department of Justice, asking the court to simply drop the case since there was no proof of actual criminal copyright infringement.

Not surprisingly, the US prosecutor did not agree and described the site as a haven for piracy that made millions every year.

Lawyer Ira Rothken, defending Vaulin, says there’s a major flaw in the case since torrent files themselves are not copyrighted content. Furthermore, the secondary copyright infringement claims don’t even exist under criminal law.

Defense seeks dismissal

“We believe that the indictment against Artem Vaulin in the KAT torrent files case is defective and should be dismissed. Torrent files are not content files. The reproduction and distribution of torrent files are not a crime,” Rothken told TorrentFreak.

Basically, if any KickassTorrent visitor chooses to download a torrent file, the infringement happens after they leave the site behind and, therefore, Vaulin can’t be held accountable. Furthermore, the defense said KAT is pretty much like a search engine, and you wouldn’t sue Google for something its users do.

On the other hand, the prosecutor argues that Google is not a service dedicated to uploading and distributing copyrighted works. Furthermore, they estimate that the site’s advertising revenue was somewhere between @12.5 million and $22.3 million.

It remains to be seen what the judge will rule and who it will side with.

Vaulin is currently in custody over in Poland where he was denied bail. He was transferred to the hospital a few weeks back, facing some serious health problem, but he remains guarded. KickassTorrents went dark last July following Vaulin’s arrest.

The site had lots of problems over the past few years with multiple attempts to have it taken down, which is why it changed domain several times.

Kickass Torrents Return: Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, 1337x, Torrentz2 Still on Top

#KickassTorrent#PirateBay –  Kickass Torrents Return: Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, 1337x, Torrentz2 Still on Top : The official outcomes now demonstrate the arrival of Kickass Torrents hasn’t made a mark in the traffic performance of its rivals. The Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, Torrentz2, and 1337x all keep on holding relentless as the new KAT battles to make gains.

The outcomes are in, and the proclaimed return of the once-strong Kickass Torrents site has authoritatively vacillated. Since estimations take into account a reasonable examination of the activity numbers for the KAT reboot, rival The Pirate Bay stays on top, with ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, Torrentz2, and 1337x all holding relentless.

One year back, Kickass Torrents was the most prevalent torrent site on the planet, and a standout amongst the most famous sites overall around the world. The sites owner was arrested one year ago reports, mobipicker.

After a year, it’s an altogether different story, as previous runner-up The Pirate Bay keeps on developing as the No. 1 site, while Kickass Torrents hasn’t made a mark in the most as of late released traffic rankings reports, telegiz.

The news that preliminary outcomes showed that the arrival of Kickass Torrents was not working out quite as well of course. While the website hadn’t been online for 30 days, the base time frame important to earn a precise Alexa positioning for KAT’s return, rather surveyed the movement numbers for Kickass Torrents’ greatest rivals since its recent return.

Reports conjectured that all five best deluge sites prior to Kickass Torrents’ rebound would demonstrate some sort of traffic loss after its arrival, that turned out not to be the situation. Every one of the five of those locales – The Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, Torrentz2, and 1337x – either held essentially relentless in the rankings or demonstrated increases.

Why are the movement numbers for the new Kickass Torrents as low as they seem to be? The fundamental reason is likely because of the one glaring insufficiency in the new site: the absence of older torrents from the earlier KAT, a number of which are still not accessible on the new one. While some have been supplanted, huge amounts of data were lost when the old site was closed down.

The new KAT keeps up a similar easy to use outline as its earlier incarnation, ostensibly the best of every one of its rivals, and huge numbers of the same devoted and amicable staff.

The official results now show the return of Kickass Torrents hasn’t made a dent in the traffic performance of its competitors. The Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent, Rarbg, Torrentz2, and 1337x all continue to hold steady as the new KAT struggles to make gains.

Microsoft To Work With Trimble And Cambridge University For HoloLens In Construction

#MicrosoftHoloLens #CambridgeUniversity – Microsoft To Work With Trimble And Cambridge University For HoloLens In Construction : Microsoft has partnered with Trimble and Cambridge University for its augmented reality (AR) headset to be used as a tool in construction. Trimble’s SketchUp Viewer, which is priced at $1,499, is the first commercial HoloLens application for the construction industry in the Windows Store late last year.

Tech Crunch reported that the tech giant has partnered with Trimble and Cambridge University to find new ways to use HoloLens for construction. Microsoft has already announced that a set of new trials are currently being developed.

One way that HoloLens can be used for construction is as an Automated Progress Monitoring tool. This will allow inspectors to do visual inspections of a construction site without the need to write several documents and reports.

With the AR headset, necessary information on a physical object can be displayed on top of it. Inspectors can just check them and report the results of their inspection using the HoloLens.

According to Engadget, the second trial that HoloLens can be used by inspectors is by taking high resolution photos on the building site. This data will then be taken back to the office and overlaid onto a 3D model of the project.

Cambridge researcher Philipp Huethwohl said that this can be used for condition testing, especially in finding problems with the structure. This would lessen the risk that comes with physical inspections and, at the same time, allow the structures to remain open.

In a blog post on Windows’ official website, Microsoft noted that the second trial is named the Automated Bridge Damage Detection. It is expected to be a more efficient way of making sure that bridges do not go into the “failure zone,” which leads to major road closures and disruption.

The company revealed that its collaboration with Trimble and Cambridge University is to provide construction sector stakeholders with the information needed in making decision and to better manage physical infrastructure assets.

Google rolls out new YouTube sharing feature to Canada

#Google #Youtube – Google rolls out new YouTube sharing feature to Canada : YouTube has begun testing a new video sharing feature, rolling it out exclusively to Canadians, whom it calls “leaders when it comes to sharing”. What’s interesting here is that Google has not chosen to integrate YouTube sharing in other apps, but rather has turned the video app into yet another chat service.

Before this, sharing was limited to opening a separate app to send the chosen piece of content with. It seems the YouTube team finds this unnecessarily cumbersome, and as a result has chosen to bake a messaging platform right into the app. The feature is enabled for logged-in users only, and prompts first time users to add people as contacts. From then on, sharing a video opens a list of contacts and a message field on top of the current screen, from which the user chooses people to add in a group. Shared videos are also playable right from the chat screen.

While some people may be unhappy with this addition due Google’s tendency to fragment their user base into multiple chat apps (see: Allo, Duo, Hangouts), this does not appear to be exactly the same case: this is explicitly marketed as a feature for sharing video, rather than a messaging platform, and as a result caters to a completely different use case. While the new feature is rolling out to Canadians only, users from different countries can unlock it by being on the receiving end of a shared video. To accommodate the new platform, the YouTube app has added a new, fifth tab in the main user interface. The feature should be available to both iOS and Android users shortly.
