Xiaomi Mi 6 visits AnTuTu, scores 170,000

#Xiaomi #XiaomiMi6 – Xiaomi Mi 6 visits AnTuTu, scores 170,000 : Xiaomi may take the wraps off its next flagship smartphone as soon as tomorrow. We told you about this development a few hours ago, and it would certainly be an odd introduction if it pans out, because the outing of a new product tomorrow was only confirmed by company execs today. Usually invites for such events are sent out at least a few days in advance.

Anyway, the Mi 6 is continuing to hit various benchmarks in the meantime. We’ve seen it in the GFXBench database last week, and today it’s been spotted at AnTuTu. The prototype that got put through the paces of the benchmark managed to score around 170,000 points, which is certainly a big improvement over the 131,000 that the Mi 5s was able to achieve.

That’s in no small part to do with the fact that the Mi 6 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. AnTuTu’s information listing for the Xiaomi handset calls it by its codename Sagit, which is in fact the same moniker we’ve seen at GFXBench. That SoC it has makes us certain it’s the Mi 6 in disguise.

As you can see from the image above, AnTuTu confirms that at least one model of the Mi 6 will arrive with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, a 12 MP main camera, and an 8 MP selfie shooter. It has a 1080p touchscreen and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat underneath the latest version of MIUI.

All of these details have previously been outed by GFXBench, so you can pretty much bet on them being the final specs for the Mi 6 – especially if we’re mere hours away from its unveiling. That said, this version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage is likely to be the entry-level option. We should see some more variants with more memory and storage, which will command a price premium as you’d expect.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 will most likely be unveiled tomorrow

#Xiaomi #XiaomiMi6 – The Xiaomi Mi 6 will most likely be unveiled tomorrow : As a result of its devices’ relatively good specs and competitive prices, Xiaomi is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in China, though the brand has been growing in popularity outside the country as well. We’ve been hearing rumors of its newest flagship, the Mi 6, for quite some time now, but a recent string of posts on Xiaomi’s official page on Chinese social networking site Weibo suggests the device will be unveiled tomorrow, April 11.

Starting April 6, Xiaomi has been publishing daily posts dedicated to each of its Mi flagships on its Weibo page, and today it has posted the last of them, the one for the Mi 5. While this isn’t an outright confirmation that the Mi 6 will be announced tomorrow, the timing is weirdly coincidental with a press conference that will be held tomorrow. Moreover, Xiaomi has apparently sent a WeChat message to its fans saying they should expect something tomorrow at noon, further confirming there is a big reveal coming up.

While it may not be as leaky as the Samsung Galaxy S8, we still know quite a lot about the Mi 6. Its processor will most likely be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835, though we have also heard rumors of a 821 version as well. The rear camera of the device is said to be a 12 MP dual-camera module with Sony’s IMX 386 sensor, while the front will be a regular 8 MP shooter with IMX 268. There will also apparently be two options memory-wise: a 4GB RAM + 64GB internal memory one, and another with a 6 GB + 128 GB combo.

The screen is said to sport a 5.2-inch panel, though there’s also apparently two versions of that as well: one will have a Quad HD resolution, while the other will top at Full HD instead. It’s not entirely clear whether there will be just two versions of the device, or if Xiaomi will be playing mix-and-match with the specs, but we surely won’t have to wait for long to see. The phone is said to also run Android 7.1.1 and will reportedly be IP68-certified.

The press conference is set for noon Hong Kong time on April 11, which translates to midnight Eastern Time. We’ll make sure to keep you updated if the Mi 6 really does get unveiled tomorrow, though we’re almost certain it will.

Samsung Galaxy S9 News: Successor To The Galaxy S8 Already In The Works

#Samsung #GalaxyS9 – Samsung Galaxy S9 News: Successor To The Galaxy S8 Already In The Works : Reports of a new Samsung flagship device are already all over the internet and it’s not the foldable Galaxy X or the Galaxy Note 8. While the Galaxy S8 has yet to drop in stores and the two other Samsung devices are expected within the year, the Korean tech giant has supposedly started working on the Galaxy S9.

International Business Times cited some sources which said that the Korean conglomerate is already working on the Galaxy S9. The report came all the way from the company’s home turf. “The Bell”, a Korean news outlet, reported that Samsung has begun development on the display panels for next year’s flagship smartphone.

The reason why Samsung is around six months ahead of schedule as compared to its previous devices’ timelines is that it wants the Galaxy S9 to be fool-proof and to be even better quality-wise than the highly impressive Galaxy S8. The debacle that is the Samsung Galaxy S7 is still fresh in their minds which are why the company is taking every precautionary step possible. Furthermore, Samsung already has laid the groundwork for a much safer process in manufacturing its devices after the exploding battery fiasco. In fact, with the way things are going so far for the Galaxy S8, it seems like Samsung has finally succeeded on burying its demons or is at least off to a good start.

BGR reported that the team in charge with the Galaxy S9’s display is already set to supply some samples sometime in the middle of this month which is basically a week or so from now. This bit of news, if proven true, clearly indicates that the display team has been hard at work for some time now. The source also mentioned that development of other vital components of the Galaxy S9 will start a month after the display gets the go-signal.

A leak showing a prototype of the Samsung Galaxy S8 indicated that the company toyed with the idea of giving the flagship smartphone a dual camera set-up. It remains to be seen if the Galaxy S9 will get the feature.

The early start can also mean an earlier launch for the next flagship handset. The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus was understandably delayed because of their controversial predecessor and the company seems intent to get a good head start with the Samsung Galaxy S9.

The Next Microsoft Surface Device May Have Two Screens Including An E-Paper Display

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – The Next Microsoft Surface Device May Have Two Screens Including An E-Paper Display : A new patent has surfaced indicating Microsoft’s plan of possibly coming up with a device with dual screens, one of which will be an E-paper display. The patent for the “dual display device” was filed on September of last year and was just published on March 30 by the World Intellectual Property Organization or WIPO.

Speculations have since sprouted as to what particular Microsoft device will utilize the patent. The patent shows a device with two screens. The regular screen is on one side while the e-paper display is on the opposite side. The regular screen will supposedly display “visually dynamic user inputs and controls” while the e-paper display will be for “visually static user inputs and controls”. According to Trusted Reviews, the e-paper display may be utilized for input controls such as a keyboard. In this regard, the patent may very well be for a new Microsoft Surface tablet though there are some who believes the patent will be used on a Surface Phone. The patent further explained that the visually static user controls on the e-paper display may include controls for playing music and videos. The patent also explained that the regular screen may display thumbnails of the cover album of the song being played using the static user controls.

Another theory says the e-paper display will act as a cover for a new Microsoft Surface Pro. This is most likely why the e-paper display will be detachable, rigid and touch-sensitive.

Microsoft is currently hard at work with a new Surface Book recently launched, the Surface Studio about to be officially launched in a few weeks, and a flurry of patents being published recently. One such patent is for “hinged displays“. Some quarters believe the two patents will find their way to one Windows 10 device. Of course, these are all speculations for now.

Microsoft ‘Surface Phone’ May Have Dual Display, But Patent Is Likely For A Tablet And Not A Smartphone

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft ‘Surface Phone’ May Have Dual Display, But Patent Is Likely For A Tablet And Not A Smartphone : A new patent made by Microsoft has recently surfaced and it’s a device that will have a dual display, possibly for the Microsoft “Surface Phone” and the “Surface Pro 5.” But with the way the device in the patent looks, it’s likely for a tablet, not a smartphone.

According to a report from Express, the patent showed that one side of the device would be a regular screen, while the other would be made of electronic paper. The e-paper could likely transform into a keyboard if needed be.

This new patent would likely eliminate the need for Type Cover accessory that currently exists in the “Surface Pro 4.” The patent also shows that the second screen could be used to control the device’s music choice, as well as play games.

The e-paper screen could likely turn into a set of buttons or controls that allow fans to play games on the device in an interactive way. The report said that this patent could also reflect the latest feature that the “Surface Phone” could have as previous reports have claimed that the smartphone might be a foldable device that features two displays.

But Trusted Reviews reports that the latest patent, which was filed in September 2016, is likely for a tablet design and not the “Surface Phone.” It’s likely for a new e-paper Surface device or for the “Surface Pro 5.”

The report said that the e-paper side of the dual display will be touched sensitive, is removable and could function as a cover. This hints that the patent is not for a smartphone but more for a tablet.

There is no guarantee, though, that Microsoft will indeed come out with a device that has this kind of technology. Companies usually use patents as a way to protect their ideas and not of what people can expect to come. In the meantime, check out more news about the Microsoft “Surface Phone” in the video below.

Microsoft Surface Phone release date, news: New patent filing proves Surface Phone's release?

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone release date, news: New patent filing proves Surface Phone’s release? : Speculations about the development of the Microsoft Surface Phone refuse to die down, as new rumors claim that the release of the highly anticipated smartphone will be announced by the tech giant soon.

Recent reports claim that the new patent filing that was posted recently by Free Patents Online is pertaining to a brand-new type of multi-layered phone display that was made from tiled panels that curve at the edge.

According to Express UK, the curved edges of are featured in the design of the patent are made to block the light that will pass through from the gaps. This will help the device feature one continuous image in the display. The report claims that the patented design will solve one of the biggest problems seen in devices that feature hinged displays where several panels could break the perception of the users on the objects featured on the screen.

However, the patent application does not specify if the design is intended for the much-awaited Microsoft Surface Phone.

Talks about the development of the Microsoft Surface Phone first intensified when the company’s CEO Satya Nadella hinted about their plans for the smartphone market in an interview with Australian Financial Review.

According to Nadella, they will push through with the development of new smartphone products that will not be defined by the current leaders in the steep smartphone competition.

“We will continue to be in the phone market not as defined by today’s market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device,” the Microsoft CEO stated in the interview back in November 2016. “Therefore [with Nokia assets], we stopped doing things that were me-too and started doing things, even if they are today very sub-scale, to be very focused on a specific set of customers who need a specific set of capabilities that are differentiated and that we can do a good job of.”

But Microsoft has yet to announce its actual plans for the Surface Phone device in the coming days.

Nokia 6 White Release Slated In China On April 11; Specs, Features & Prices Specified

#Nokia #Nokia6 – Nokia 6 White Release Slated In China On April 11; Specs, Features & Prices Specified : The Nokia 6 White which was the first Nokia-branded handset that HMD Global unveiled is still Chinese market exclusive. As a matter of fact, the said smartphone will become available for pre-orders in China starting April 11.

According to Phone Arena, the Nokia 6 has been obtainable exclusively in black color. Nevertheless, that scenario seems to change for about a week from now since the Chinese retailer JD.com already publicized that the Nokia 6 White will be offered for purchase on April 11.

The price of Nokia 6 White is similar to its Black color version, but it is anticipated to be tagged at a slightly higher cost in other countries. It can be remembered that the Nokia 6 is priced around $220, but HMD publicized the global model will be sold for €229. Meanwhile, the Arte Black special edition variant will be up for grabs for €299.

Moreover, Droid Report has noted that the Nokia 6 was fist unveiled in January 2017 for the Chinese market. Now, the Nokia 6 White will be available in 64 GB and 32 GB variants and both were equipped with 4 GB of RAM. Nevertheless, the 32 GB model does not sport NFC (near field communication) and Android Play.

Aside from that the Nokia 6 is engineered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 which performs well with navigation and basic chores. Conversely, it has a powerful battery that has surpassed anticipations. Also, this handset has a pair of stereo speakers which is somewhat interesting since it has a reasonable price range.

Unluckily, it is not yet confirmed if the new Nokia 6 White will be accessible in other countries as well. Moreover, the fans who wanted that variant on their hands are advised to wait for further announcements from HMD Global as it will surely deliver information about the availability of the handset soon.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Unboxed And Coming On April 21

#Samsung #GalaxyS8 – Samsung Galaxy S8 Unboxed And Coming On April 21 : The Samsung Galaxy S8 is finally here… almost. As expected, the Korean conglomerate unveiled its latest flagship smartphone at the Unpacked 2017 event held yesterday, March 29. Pre-orders for the handset will start on the 31st while the device itself will be shipped to U.S. shores come April 21. This gives fans three weeks to ponder on their decision while waiting for their orders to be delivered.

There’s little to debate about regarding the features and specifications of the Galaxy S8. On paper, the smartphone is arguably one of the best ever. Understandably, some people may be having second thoughts about purchasing the smartphone because of Samsung’s recent bad rep courtesy of recalls, arrests, and exploding batteries.

It’s undeniable, however, that the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S8 is a beautiful piece of machinery. The svelte look of the Galaxy S8 is both surprising and not. Despite the number of rumors and leaks showing the design of the Galaxy S8, seeing and holding the actual device still fuels awe and amazement. The Samsung Galaxy S8 combines glass and metal perfectly while giving its users more space to work on with its huge 5.8-inch screen (6.2 inches for the S8 Plus) packed in a rather lithe body. The bezels are distinctly slimmer, the sides are curved and the physical home button is gone.

Another feature that got an impressive upgrade is its front camera. The Galaxy S8 now sports an 8MP front-facing camera, up from the S7’s 5MP. The rear camera, however, remained at 12MP.

Samsung also introduced its Bixby voice assistant. The company claims that Bixby is capable of doing more as compared to other digital assistants, though, for now, it will only work with certain Samsung apps.

The biggest concern with the Galaxy S8, as CBS noted, is its battery. Samsung acknowledged the embarrassment of the Galaxy Note 7 when its executives explained that the company implemented new and better standards and procedures including an eight-point battery check for their devices starting with the Galaxy S8.

The Verge stated that Samsung did not announce a fixed price for the flagship smartphone. This is a common practice of the Korean tech company which prefers that carriers dictate the actual retail price. However, many estimate the smartphone to be available for no less than $720. While the price will depend on the carriers, what is set in stone is that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will come on April 21.

Microsoft Surface Phone To Come Up With A Groundbreaking Foldable Design

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone To Come Up With A Groundbreaking Foldable Design : Now that Samsung Galaxy S8 is officially released, most of its competition are now on all fours in trying to steal its thunder. And as Apple’s follow-up to its controversial iPhone 7 is months away from its launch, all eyes are now starting to turn to Microsoft’s next flagship entry in the mobile world — the Microsoft Surface Phone.

Express reported that Microsoft Surface Phone will truly be living up to its scene-stealer moniker. Accordingly, Microsoft’s upcoming flagship iteration may go with a foldable design and other expected layers. This comes after a spotted patent, indicating that the device foldable functionality will arrive with a display that is made with multiple visual offerings. In addition, the phone’s panels are described to be curving at their edges, allowing the surface to create an illusory, unified image.

On the other hand, the Microsoft Surface Phone’s purported “unified image” will also resolve the permeating issue among foldable devices — the gap. All devices that are folded in half are evidently lacking continuity, unlike other sole mobile devices. As such, these curves should do be able to do away this noticeable absence.

The report on Microsoft Surface Phone’s foldable functionality is no news for most of its hardcore fans. The same publication reported that a similar patent filing was seen back in January. The filed patent showed designs that could provide the foldable device a more fluid look and functionality. Moreover, the designs affirmed that a hybrid between a smartphone and a tablet is now entirely possible.

Microsoft Surface Phone’s hybrid offering will also showcase top-of-the-line features and specifications. These may include the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and a storage tier offering of up to 8GB of random access memory (RAM). Meanwhile, Trusted Reviews shared that the next series of devices may go for a massive 500GB of internal storage.

Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to be unveiled anytime soon. Its official launching might also come alongside with the other Surface devices Microsoft is speculated to be working on as of late.

LG Releases LG G6 TVC As Samsung Preps Up For Galaxy S8 Launch

#LG #LGG6TVC LG Releases LG G6 TVC As Samsung Preps Up For Galaxy S8 Launch LG has just released a TVC for its G6 smartphone. Coincidentally, the new ad was unveiled less than 24 hours before Samsung’s Galaxy S8 gets launched. This may be a non-malicious timing but a few tech enthusiasts can see through LG’s strategy.

As per GSM Arena, LG only has a few more hours left to savor its spotlight as a 2017 flagship. Come 11 am March 29, the Galaxy S8 will be the talk of the town. With that, the LG G6 may have been provoked to release its official LG G6 ad which can be seen below.

The ad is a short 30-second video but it managed to showcase all the good things that the LG G6 has to offer. This includes its smaller bezel size and weather-proof body. Lastly, the LG G6’s rear fingerprint scanner was likewise shown off.

With LG’s slogan in the video that says “The Big Screen That Fits Your Hand”, it’s easy to assume that the company wants to take on other flagship phablets on the market, possibly including the 6.2 inches Galaxy S8 Plus. Nevertheless, this new TV ad may just be the first of the series of ads that LG is preparing to release. Fans can expect to see more as the LG G6 approaches more markets.
