2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better

#Chevrolet #CamaroZL1 – 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better : Sometimes, the best things are already right in front of us. In the case of the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, its best track time has come from the use of a six-speed manual transmission rather than the recently developed ten-speed auto that apparently shifts quicker than Porsche’s renowned dual-clutch PDK.

That’s according to a Motor Trend comparison which pit the manual and auto versions of the same ZL1 against each other at the Willow Springs Raceway. The manual version ended up being 0.38 seconds quicker than the auto.

While a negligible difference, this result makes a strong case in favor of preserving the manual transmission especially when it comes to track battles. Of course driver skill has to be taken into account – sucky drivers would just give the ZL1 a bad name if made to row their own gears.

However, another factor that puts the manual option ahead of the auto is fuel efficiency. Having ten speeds is supposed to make the ZL1 a smoother performer, but official EPA estimates afford it only 15mpg combined, 1mpg less than the manual.

So it looks like having more speeds on a newer transmission hasn’t really done it for Chevrolet. We wonder how Ford would fare with its own ten-speed auto in the upcoming Mustang.

#Chevrolet #ChevroletCamaro – CHEVROLET CAMARO GT4.R RACE CAR IS COMING : After months of speculation, Chevrolet has finally released the first look at its Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car. It’s a GT4-spec race car based on the sixth-generation Camaro.

According to reports, this Camaro GT4.R will most likely be related to the Camaro ZL1 road car in some ways. The race car is being developed by long-time Chevy motorsport partner Pratt & Miller.

This will replace the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.R racer in several events like the Pirelli World Challenge and the IMSA’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Not only that, but the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car will also be eligible for global GT4 competition.

Unlike the ZL1, this race car will not be powered by a supercharged V8 engine. However, the replacement will be a naturally-aspirated 6.2 liters unit.

According to reports, the engine itself features dry-sump lubrication and is paired with a 6-speed, paddle-sighted Xtrac sequential transmission. There are also a few more upgrades including a Xtrac limited-slip differential.

Aside from those, Chevrolet also teased adjustable Ohlins coil-overs, 6-piston Brembo monoblock calipers on the front axle. It will also feature an aggressive downforce package which boasts a new rear wing, new splitter and dive planes at the front.

An actual photo of the car has not been released yet. However, Chevy released a rendering and a teaser video on Wednesday morning. In the video, fans can hear the race-spec version of the Camaro SS’s 6.2-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox by Xtrac.

Fans are also excited to see what the competition will come up with now that Chevrolet teased a new race car. Due to its surge in popularity, the GT4 has seen plenty of competitors from different automakers including Aston Martin, Ford, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.

As of now, Chevy has yet to send a confirmation regarding the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car’s reveal date. In the teaser video, Team Chevy did show that their all-new race car will be “coming soon.”

#ChevroletCamaro #CamaroZL1 – 2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 650 HP: THE BEST CAMARO SO FAR : The all new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is considered as the most powerful Camaro ever made. In fact, the car is faster than any muscle cars of yore and can do a lot of things that many muscle cars cannot.

What’s new about the car? Well, other than losing nearly 100kg of ballast, it has inherited the Corvette Z06’s supercharged 6.2-liter 650bhp/650lb-ft. The car is also fitted with the big Vettes Performance Traction Management system.

So far, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the cheapest car anyone can buy that can go a top speed of 200 miles per hour. If that’s not enough, the car is equipped with the perfect engine amplifier.

All the front bodywork of the car is new, with wider fenders fitted to cover 285/30ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 front tires surrounding ginormous 20×10 forged-aluminum wheels. Its front fascia has been improved so that air can absorb all ten of the heat exchangers stacked behind it.

Another big plus of the 2017 model is its big brakes. The ventilated iron discs up front measure 15.35 inches in diameter and are fitted with a Brembo six-piston calipers. Out back the vented rotors go around 11.7 inches in diameter and are squeezed by four-piston calipers.

What’s more impressive about the 2017 model is that even without the help of line rock heating the tires, it can easily accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds or less. A quarter-mile should be consumed in just about 11.7 seconds at 127 miles per hour.

The car is well equipped with an all new 10- speed 10R90 automatic transmission, the car’s greatest technical success to date. The car’s transmission is co-developed with Ford which puts the 2017 model to take on the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the McLaren MP4-12C.

Prices for the new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 starts at $63,435 including a $1,300 gas-guzzler penalty. The car is 70 horsepower more powerful than the last ZL1.
