2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better

#Chevrolet #CamaroZL1 – 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Newer Isn’t Always Better : Sometimes, the best things are already right in front of us. In the case of the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, its best track time has come from the use of a six-speed manual transmission rather than the recently developed ten-speed auto that apparently shifts quicker than Porsche’s renowned dual-clutch PDK.

That’s according to a Motor Trend comparison which pit the manual and auto versions of the same ZL1 against each other at the Willow Springs Raceway. The manual version ended up being 0.38 seconds quicker than the auto.

While a negligible difference, this result makes a strong case in favor of preserving the manual transmission especially when it comes to track battles. Of course driver skill has to be taken into account – sucky drivers would just give the ZL1 a bad name if made to row their own gears.

However, another factor that puts the manual option ahead of the auto is fuel efficiency. Having ten speeds is supposed to make the ZL1 a smoother performer, but official EPA estimates afford it only 15mpg combined, 1mpg less than the manual.

So it looks like having more speeds on a newer transmission hasn’t really done it for Chevrolet. We wonder how Ford would fare with its own ten-speed auto in the upcoming Mustang.

Chevrolet Bolt: Is It Just A Spec-Sheet Hero?

#Chevrolet #ChevroletBolt – Chevrolet Bolt: Is It Just A Spec-Sheet Hero? : Things are not looking so good for the all-new Chevrolet Bolt as the EV hatchback from GM is unable to enjoy an impactful debut in the market. The Bolt showed signs of life on the sales front in both January and February but March saw the figures going south-bound.

Some are blaming it on GM for being sluggish in pushing out the Bolt on a nationwide basis but this is not the only issue for the car. It appears that the public is now learning on the cons of having a Bolt EV and it repelled them away from owning the car.

Those that have seated inside the Chevrolet Bolt have been loud in criticizing the comfort aspects of the vehicle. The seats feel cheap and they are too narrow and stiff for a comfortable journey.

Then there is the fact that the price is perceived as too high by the average consumers. Other points to note include the lacking in ability for a long road-trip and the lacking of real fast charging network.

With all these variables combined, it prevents the Bolt EV from making it big in the auto industry. This is such a waste as the Bolt is already an attractive vehicle on the specs sheet. The car can offer 238 miles of driving and it also has a useful infotainment system.

GM better buck up or risk having the Bolt being turned into just another spec-sheet hero.

#Chevrolet #ChevroletCamaro – CHEVROLET CAMARO GT4.R RACE CAR IS COMING : After months of speculation, Chevrolet has finally released the first look at its Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car. It’s a GT4-spec race car based on the sixth-generation Camaro.

According to reports, this Camaro GT4.R will most likely be related to the Camaro ZL1 road car in some ways. The race car is being developed by long-time Chevy motorsport partner Pratt & Miller.

This will replace the fifth-generation Camaro Z/28.R racer in several events like the Pirelli World Challenge and the IMSA’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. Not only that, but the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car will also be eligible for global GT4 competition.

Unlike the ZL1, this race car will not be powered by a supercharged V8 engine. However, the replacement will be a naturally-aspirated 6.2 liters unit.

According to reports, the engine itself features dry-sump lubrication and is paired with a 6-speed, paddle-sighted Xtrac sequential transmission. There are also a few more upgrades including a Xtrac limited-slip differential.

Aside from those, Chevrolet also teased adjustable Ohlins coil-overs, 6-piston Brembo monoblock calipers on the front axle. It will also feature an aggressive downforce package which boasts a new rear wing, new splitter and dive planes at the front.

An actual photo of the car has not been released yet. However, Chevy released a rendering and a teaser video on Wednesday morning. In the video, fans can hear the race-spec version of the Camaro SS’s 6.2-liter V8 engine paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox by Xtrac.

Fans are also excited to see what the competition will come up with now that Chevrolet teased a new race car. Due to its surge in popularity, the GT4 has seen plenty of competitors from different automakers including Aston Martin, Ford, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.

As of now, Chevy has yet to send a confirmation regarding the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R race car’s reveal date. In the teaser video, Team Chevy did show that their all-new race car will be “coming soon.”

#ChevroletCamaro #CamaroZL1 – 2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 650 HP: THE BEST CAMARO SO FAR : The all new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is considered as the most powerful Camaro ever made. In fact, the car is faster than any muscle cars of yore and can do a lot of things that many muscle cars cannot.

What’s new about the car? Well, other than losing nearly 100kg of ballast, it has inherited the Corvette Z06’s supercharged 6.2-liter 650bhp/650lb-ft. The car is also fitted with the big Vettes Performance Traction Management system.

So far, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the cheapest car anyone can buy that can go a top speed of 200 miles per hour. If that’s not enough, the car is equipped with the perfect engine amplifier.

All the front bodywork of the car is new, with wider fenders fitted to cover 285/30ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 front tires surrounding ginormous 20×10 forged-aluminum wheels. Its front fascia has been improved so that air can absorb all ten of the heat exchangers stacked behind it.

Another big plus of the 2017 model is its big brakes. The ventilated iron discs up front measure 15.35 inches in diameter and are fitted with a Brembo six-piston calipers. Out back the vented rotors go around 11.7 inches in diameter and are squeezed by four-piston calipers.

What’s more impressive about the 2017 model is that even without the help of line rock heating the tires, it can easily accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds or less. A quarter-mile should be consumed in just about 11.7 seconds at 127 miles per hour.

The car is well equipped with an all new 10- speed 10R90 automatic transmission, the car’s greatest technical success to date. The car’s transmission is co-developed with Ford which puts the 2017 model to take on the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the McLaren MP4-12C.

Prices for the new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 starts at $63,435 including a $1,300 gas-guzzler penalty. The car is 70 horsepower more powerful than the last ZL1.

2017 Chevrolet Volt: Where Is The Effort?

#Chevrolet #ChevroletVolt – 2017 Chevrolet Volt: Where Is The Effort? : The Chevrolet Volt is currently the top selling model in the US, among plug-in hybrids that is. In the plug-in market that also includes battery-electric vehicles, the Volt is also beaten by the Tesla Model S, when it comes to sales figures.

By November 2016, the Volt recorded a total sales of 21,048 units whereas the Tesla sedan surpassed it by about 2,000 units. The Ford Fusion Energi came in third with an approximate sales of 15,000 units.

Doesn’t sound too bad for the Volt but it really could have been better, way better. The automaker has obviously not tapped into its full potential. A survey by Vilandrie & Co revealed that 60 percent of 2,500 US buyers do not have an idea on what plug-ins are, according to Hybrid Cars.

Shame on You, GM!

That’s not all – about 80 percent of the respondents revealed that they have never experienced riding or driving a plug-in model.

Sierra Club carried out a study which showed that automakers are becoming less focused on marketing their electric offerings compared to their gas models and it indicated that GM isn’t doing enough for the Volt.

At the beginning of 2016, GM admitted that its dealers aren’t generally as fluent as buyers in terms of its best-selling plug-in model, so not having adequate support for the model isn’t actually a surprise.

However, GM spends the most on advertising; $3.5 billion in 2015, according to Advertising Age. Thus, it does seem strange that the automaker is lacking in its effort to tap into the great sales potential of its vehicle.

2017 Chevrolet Bolt: Let’s Talk Range Loss

#Chevrolet #ChevroletBolt – 2017 Chevrolet Bolt: Let’s Talk Range Loss : Driving range is the main focus on EV cars and it determines how good the vehicle is. Today, the minimum requirements for EV cars are 200 miles of driving range and this was set by the new Chevrolet Bolt.

The latter came out with a whopping 238 miles of driving range and this is really impressive for a car that retails around the $35,000 mark. But then again, analysts are warning the consumers that the Bolt EV 238 miles rating won’t last forever.

Like how horsepower depreciates on gasoline cars, the battery on the Bolt EV too will wear and tear. Even GM agrees with this when they revealed that in 8 years from now, the Bolt EV will lose battery life thus reducing its driving range to 143 miles.

Battery loss is a common occurrence in the electric world and this serves as a warning for carmakers to make sure that their future EVs can come with a removable battery feature like smartphones. The ease of removing and replacing batteries should turn into a norm for EV cars.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu: Newer Touch Than Camry, Accord

#Chevrolet #ChevroletMalibu – 2017 Chevrolet Malibu: Newer Touch Than Camry, Accord : If more transmission gears mean a better car, then the future looks great for the Chevrolet Malibu. We say this because the midsized sedan is about to receive a brand new gearbox option and it will be one that will have 9 gears to offer.

Wait. Why 9 speeds when GM has a got the brand new 10-speed automatics with Ford? Well, it is because the 10-speed unit is made for performance cars. Normal vehicles like the Malibu will rely on the newly developed 9-speed automatic which is tuned for the best balance in power and fuel economy.

GM confirmed on this earlier today when they shared that the 9-speed automatics should arrive in January next year and it can debut together with the 2017 Malibu. GM added that 10 models will get upgraded with the 9-speed gearbox and they will come together with performance improvements.

At this rate, the next Malibu with the 9-speed unit may just make a strong comeback against the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Japanese duo has been dominating the midsized segment and Chevrolet knows that they need something strong to pose a challenge. Will the 9-speed Malibu be it?
