Microsoft ‘Surface Phone’ May Have Dual Display, But Patent Is Likely For A Tablet And Not A Smartphone

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft ‘Surface Phone’ May Have Dual Display, But Patent Is Likely For A Tablet And Not A Smartphone : A new patent made by Microsoft has recently surfaced and it’s a device that will have a dual display, possibly for the Microsoft “Surface Phone” and the “Surface Pro 5.” But with the way the device in the patent looks, it’s likely for a tablet, not a smartphone.

According to a report from Express, the patent showed that one side of the device would be a regular screen, while the other would be made of electronic paper. The e-paper could likely transform into a keyboard if needed be.

This new patent would likely eliminate the need for Type Cover accessory that currently exists in the “Surface Pro 4.” The patent also shows that the second screen could be used to control the device’s music choice, as well as play games.

The e-paper screen could likely turn into a set of buttons or controls that allow fans to play games on the device in an interactive way. The report said that this patent could also reflect the latest feature that the “Surface Phone” could have as previous reports have claimed that the smartphone might be a foldable device that features two displays.

But Trusted Reviews reports that the latest patent, which was filed in September 2016, is likely for a tablet design and not the “Surface Phone.” It’s likely for a new e-paper Surface device or for the “Surface Pro 5.”

The report said that the e-paper side of the dual display will be touched sensitive, is removable and could function as a cover. This hints that the patent is not for a smartphone but more for a tablet.

There is no guarantee, though, that Microsoft will indeed come out with a device that has this kind of technology. Companies usually use patents as a way to protect their ideas and not of what people can expect to come. In the meantime, check out more news about the Microsoft “Surface Phone” in the video below.

MICROSOFT SURFACE PHONE UPDATE: ANNOUNCEMENT TO HAPPEN IN LATE 2017 AND TO LAUNCH IN 2018

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – MICROSOFT SURFACE PHONE UPDATE: ANNOUNCEMENT TO HAPPEN IN LATE 2017 AND TO LAUNCH IN 2018 : Ever since news about Microsoft’s restructuring of Microsoft Mobile and integration to Windows and Devices were announced, speculations on a possible Microsoft Surface Phone have abounded on the internet. The speculations were further fueled when Surface executive Panos Panay went over to head the new Microsoft Devices unit back in 2015.

Expected Microsoft Surface Phone release date. Previous news speculated that the Surface Phone would be announced in mid-2016. Since that time passed, new speculations now say that the release has been moved to 2018. This is due to the long period needed to develop a capable smartphone with engaging and interesting new features. In the meantime, we are seeing Microsoft’s Lumia making a comeback which started in January to the fill the void.

A report by Yibada states that the Surface Phone will have similar specs as the Lumia XL. It will supposedly feature a 5.5-inch display touchscreen with quad HD resolution and 1440 by 2560 pixel resolution.

Current Surface devices support Continuum, a Windows 10 feature that involves the user interface automatically adapting to certain situations. This feature will supposedly be also available on the Surface Phone along with Quick Charge 4.0 and 6 gigabytes of RAM. The Surface Phone is expected to run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 processor.

The operating system for the Surface Phone looks to be the Windows 10 Mobile Redstone 3. However, reports are saying that the Redstone 3 is struggling in comparison to the more widely used Android OS and Apple iOS.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that the tech giant is in the process of developing its next-generation flagship device. This device could also possibly be the much-awaited Microsoft Surface Pro 5. Nadella hinted that the device will have all the features of a high-performance device which will be more than enough to compete with current market players.

MICROSOFT SURFACE PHONE NEWS: UPCOMING PHONE COULD BE FOLDED INTO A TABLET ACCORDING TO FILED PATENT

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – MICROSOFT SURFACE PHONE NEWS: UPCOMING PHONE COULD BE FOLDED INTO A TABLET ACCORDING TO FILED PATENT : The new Microsoft Surface Phone has been the most talked about device for over a year. This is because the company has kept quiet about their plans for the flagship device, breathing life for more rumors and speculations.

According to Forbes, Microsoft filed a patent for a phone to fold into a tablet. The patent was originally submitted in 2014 by Kabir Siddiqui on behalf of the company. And the patent was approved on January 10.

This proves that Microsoft could launch a device much different to those devices that have already saturated the market. The Surface Book laptop and Surface Pro hybrid are physical proof that the company is not afraid of designing a product from scratch.

Since the company wants a premium device, then an all-metal body complemented with a curved glass display could be expected for the new Microsoft Surface Phone. Also, based on the filed patent, the device could fold into a tablet.

As described in the patent, the Microsoft Surface Phone could appear with a flexible hinge. This means that the device could be used in various configurations. For example, the user could be watching a movie using the tablet screen and would simply pause it and fold the device in half and use it like a phone to answer a call or text.

Also, rumors have it that the device will house Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip, as reported by Express UK. This means that the new Microsoft Surface Phone could become one of the most powerful devices on the market.

Further, to support a powerful hardware and processor, the phone could pack a battery that would be similar to the one used in the S7 or iPhone 7 Plus. Both units pack a 3000mAh unit and 2900mAh battery, respectively.

The software for the device could be a bit tricky. Microsoft might use their own or opt for an Android-run device similar to what Nokia and Blackberry did.

These are mere possibilities as to the final outcome for the new Microsoft Surface Phone. The patent could simply be an insight on how the company will finally design the much-anticipated device. In terms of its release date, it is unlikely that it will come out early 2017 as the company is still all hands on deck with the Windows 10 Creators Update release. But let’s hope that the unit will make its debut not later this year.

Surface Phone 2017: Microsoft Patent Suggests Foldable Phone Convertible Into A Tablet And Vice Versa

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone2017 – Surface Phone 2017: Microsoft Patent Suggests Foldable Phone Convertible Into A Tablet And Vice Versa : Microsoft is allegedly working on a high-end Surface Phone. Although it is still uncertain whether the company will go forward with a Surface Phone launch anytime soon, Microsoft is reportedly studying foldable smartphones which could possibly be turned into Windows tablets conveniently.

Apple, Samsung and others are researching about foldable smartphones as well and just like its competitors, Microsoft has a documentation highlighting its foldable smartphone vision. The new patent that Microsoft applied describes a foldable tablet that is supported by a flexible hinge.

Furthermore, this flexible hinge structure with USPTO Patent No. 9,541,962 permits the plurality of housings to rotate about an axis in relation to each other, secures the plurality of housings to each other, and supports a continuous viewing area of the display device which extends across the plurality of housings and the flexible hinge structure.

The patent, which was awarded on January 10, features a lot of imagery to explain Microsoft’s plans for this ultimate device. Allegedly, the user will be able to conveniently switch from tablet to smartphone mode wherein the screen being put on the exterior of the device.

The tablet can be used as a tablet when unfolded or a phone in compact form. It also imagines devices that would have two hinges and three foldable parts as well. Furthermore, Microsoft even lays out screen sizes for mini-tablet and smartphone mode and resolutions as well.

According to recent reports, Samsung will be releasing a smartphone later this year that resembles the one Microsoft envisions. LG is said to have similar foldable screen technology in place, which supposedly even more advanced than that of Samsung’s.

The report claimed that LG may possibly provide foldable screens to its competitors who include Apple and others. Note that Microsoft’s patent doesn’t reportedly guarantee that such device will actually be built as the highly anticipated Surface Phone 2017.

Microsoft Surface Phone Rumors Recently Discovered Patent Could Hint At Unconventional Design For Smartphone

#MicrosoftSurface #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone Rumors Recently Discovered Patent Could Hint At Unconventional Design For Smartphone : The Surface Phone is essentially a blank slate at this point, seeing as how no one really has a solid idea of what it will look like and what kind of features it will offer, but a recently discovered patent may offer some clues with regards to what Microsoft may have in mind when it comes to this particular device.

Spotted by MSPoweruser, a new patent filed by Microsoft describes a device that utilizes a flexible hinge. With the flexible hinge included, it then becomes possible for people to use the device in different ways.

The hinge can be set in a way that allows the device in question to be used as a smartphone, or it can be adjusted so that the device can transform into a tablet.

The patent points to a very interesting concept that the rumored Surface Phone could end up being based upon, but is it being realistic to expect Microsoft to build upon this idea when it comes to their next flagship smartphone?

Well, if nothing else, it’s not like unusual ideas have stopped the folks over at Microsoft before. As The Verge pointed out, the company has not been shy when it comes to bucking convention with their Surface-branded devices, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising if they did that again with their new smartphone.

Unfortunately, foldable or not, it’s still unclear exactly when this new smartphone may first see the light of day.

Unlike many other flagship smartphone offerings, there is no currently established release window attached to this particular device, given that this would be the first of its kind whenever it may finally hit the market.

For what it’s worth, there are some rumors hinting that Microsoft may opt to launch the Surface Phone sometime during the latter portion of this year, so people may want to keep an eye out for that as there’s a chance that this new device could be something very different.

Microsoft Surface Phone: April Release + In Depth Look

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone: April Release + In Depth Look : With the success of Microsoft’s Surface line of products, there is no question why the public has taken such an interest in the upcoming Surface Phone. Despite there hardly being any information on the device, it is still one of the most anticipated releases of 2017. Fortunately, the company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, has provided some vital and interesting details on the device.

“We will continue to be in the phone market,” Learn Bonds quotes Nadella saying. “Not as defined by today’s market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device.” Microsoft was never absent from the smartphone industry – it just never shined. Indeed, in the midsts of giants Samsung and Apple, the Lumia phones were often overlooked.

It seems that the Redmond-based company now plans to carve its own footprint in the industry by being different and not relying on the success of others. As Nadella confirmed, Microsoft asked itself what it could bring to the table and there was no limit in terms of potential. In other words, the tech giant is applying the same technique it has with the rest of its Surface offerings. And why not? It has proven successful time and time again.

The Surface Studio has, in its own right, revolutionized desktop. The unit, which was released in the latter parts of 2016 has changed the public’s understanding of what a standard desktop is capable of. By introducing new technology with the Surface Studio, such as the Surface Pen and the Surface Dial, Microsoft did something new. Likewise, the Surface Pro 4 is still one of the highest regarded hybrid devices in the industry.

There is no doubt that the Surface Phone will follow suit in this regard. The handheld will be a unique one, which will be much more than a smartphone. The publication points out that it will be a multi-use device with desktop-like capabilities. But while the company will continue to make innovations, this does not mean that it will leave its legacy behind completely, as it is expected to still run on Windows 10 Mobile.

The operating system from Microsoft has not made positive waves in the past, but this all might change as illustrated by the Elite x3 from HP. The Elite x3 has made the first step into proving what a smartphone with PC qualities is capable of. But as Nadella has stated, these are not the only aspects to look forward to. As he himself confirmed, the public can expect Surface Phone differentiators in manageability, security and Continuum capacity.

As IBTimes AU adds, the Windows 10 Creators Update is expected to roll out in April, which is why the Surface Phone is expected around that time as well. The update will apparently be feature-locked sometime this month but will be released by the time April comes around. The update itself reportedly focuses on 3D capabilities, Cortana enhancements, stronger security features and an improved Microsoft Edge browser experience.

The publication went on to state that since the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor is already available, that Microsoft has no other reason to delay the release of the Surface Phone. It is likely that the unit will be officially announced before the end of February or even March. This would still give the Redmond-based company enough time to roll out the unit in April.

Microsoft Surface Phone To Feature Multi-Device Screen Sharing? See More Details Here

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Microsoft Surface Phone To Feature Multi-Device Screen Sharing? See More Details Here : A new patent filing from Microsoft hinted that the upcoming Surface Phone might feature a multi-device screen sharing system. The technology is said to allow a display to be shared over two or more devices. Though it is still yet to be confirmed, it could be an interesting feature for gaming especially in multiplayer modes.

As reported by WinBuzzer, the newly released Microsoft patent application details a multi-device system that lets users pair their gadgets to combine the display. The abstract of the patent reads, “In embodiments of multi-device pairing and combined display, mobile devices have device touchscreens, and housing bezels of the mobile devices can be positioned proximate each other to form a combined display from the respective device touchscreens.”

Additionally, the patent also describes an “input recognition system” that gives the mobile device a capability to initiate screen sharing with another devices. The result will be a cross-display of a single interface over two interlinked smartphones. The feature may also be used on more than two mobile phones, reportedly. It is important to note that the Redmond-based multinational technology company has not unveiled the highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Phone yet. However, several reports surfaced online about the specs of the new mobile phone, including leaked images that hinted a Carl Zeiss branding. The photos also resembled a design similar to Lumia.

The alleged Microsoft Surface Phone images were proven to be fake as pointed out by Phone Arena though. The report claimed that the Carl Zeiss branding in the given images were from the old prototype. The last time it was used was back in 2013.

Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to be revealed this year though the company has not given an update on its official unveiling. In the meantime, tell us what you want to see in the new smartphone. Are you interested in the speculated multi-device screen pairing system?

Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Leaked Images Show Hybrid Between Smartphone & Phablet

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone2017 – Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 Leaked Images Show Hybrid Between Smartphone & Phablet : The Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 is easily one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017. And even though there is very little information given out by Microsoft, the Internet is still full of speculations for the phone. Luckily for us, new leaked images of the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 have recently surfaced.

Yibada reports that a Chinese social media site has just recently leaked new images of the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017. The images easily detail the finished look and design of the highly anticipated phone. Some speculate that that the photos might be a prototype of the phone, however the images do look good enough to be the final version of the phone.

THE LEAKS

The phones are rather large and appear to be close to the size of conventional phablets. The phone bears striking similarities to Nokia Lumia XL version in terms of size. Although the phones are large, the width is notably very slim for phablet sized phones. This gives the phone’s proportions a hybrid between mid-size smartphones and phablets.

The images also clearly show several key features of the Microsoft Surface Phone 2017. The back camera, and several touch screen buttons are easily seen.

And although the earphone jack is not visible in the photos, Trusted Reviews reports that the phone will feature a 3.5 mm earphone jack on the top side of the phone. While a USB Type-C port will be present at the bottom end of the phone.

The specs of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone 2017 is set to be on the high end spectrum of smartphones. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella details that the production of the phone is not being rushed in order to assure that Microsoft deliver the ultimate mobile device to the market this 2017.

Surface Phone updates: Existence of the alleged Microsoft smartphone still in limbo

#Microsoft #SurfacePhone – Surface Phone updates: Existence of the alleged Microsoft smartphone still in limbo : Despite the numerous rumors on the Surface Phone possibly arriving soon, the latest reports claim that it may unlikely be the case.

There is no denying that the Surface Phone is one of the most-talked-about mobile devices. This is despite the fact that Microsoft has not yet officially acknowledged that the said phone is, indeed, already in the company’s armory.

Recently, many of those who have been anticipating the arrival of the Surface Phone got even more excited as the supposed images of the highly anticipated device surfaced online. However, there were some who were quick to point out that those images are nothing more than the prototype of the Lumia Phones, the line of phone acquired by Microsoft from Nokia, in the past.

Because of the several false alarms on the release and even on the existence of the Surface Phone, it is now alleged that there may be no Surface Phone at all. After all, although Microsoft has said point black that it is not done with smartphones yet, it has not categorically stated that it will be branded as the Surface Phone. Also, as the Redmond-based company has not issued a specific time frame as to when it will re-enter the smartphone market with its latest offering, the veracity of the rumors claiming that the Surface Phone’s release is imminent is clouded with doubt.

In September last year, Microsoft’s director for engineering Laura Butler teased Microsoft fans with the existence of the Surface Phone when she tweeted “Surface Phone is not NOT confirmed.” As the now-taken down tweet came with double negative, and double negative means affirmative, many believe that Microsoft may, indeed, be working on the Surface Phone. However, it is suspected that the company may not be ready with its latest smartphone offering, hence, it refuses to talk about it or release it half-baked.

Is there really a Surface Phone? Is it really arriving this year?

Without any official word from Microsoft, fans can only wonder.

Surface Phone At MWC 2017: Why It May Not Happen

#SurfacePhone #MWC2017 – Surface Phone At MWC 2017: Why It May Not Happen : There are arguably three handhelds that are going to take the tech world by storm this year: Apple’s iPhone 8, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Microsoft’s Surface Phone. Each unit has its own thing going for it, but the last of the three has time going for it. At least, several publications have claimed that it might be unveiled next month at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.

Despite not currently having a heavy hand in the mobile industry, Microsoft has confirmed its attendance at the MWC. And as noted by Windows Report, the company has even put up a website, which allows MWC visitors to arrange meetings during the event. Of course, what the Redmond tech giant has planned for those days are still unknown, but the general thinking is that the Surface Phone will finally be revealed.

The MWC will undoubtedly be a good platform to showcase the Surface Phone for the first time. Several tech companies have taken advantage of the event for the exact same reason in the past. So it is a possibility that Microsoft will follow suit – but would the tech giant jump over the opportunity to create its own event and make a big reveal for the first smartphone under its exceptionally popular Surface line?

Probably not, but there is another reason why the Surface Phone might not make it to the MWC 2017. That is, that the device is simply not ready. Microsoft’s Satya Nadella has already claimed that it will be a mobile device unlike any other. He described it as the “ultimate” handheld. The company is sure to to take its time to deliver.

But this leaves the question of what the tech giant will do at the highly publicized event on February 27 to March 2. As Forbes notes, it is more likely that the company is there to support one of its long-standing partners in hardware. The HP Elite X3 is powered by Windows 10 and has generally been positively received. It is possible that Microsoft will be there as support, or to stand behind its mobile software.

It is also possible that Microsoft will also discuss some things about an upcoming update. The publication claims that an update will be coming in the latter half of 2017. The update, which will be called Redstone 3, will be third development made to Windows 10. It is at this point that the Surface Phone is more likely to be released.

Partnering up the update – essentially the latest software – with the Surface Phone, the ultimate handheld device, is a logical choice. However, this pushes back the release to beyond July, which may or may not be a good move. On the one hand, this will allow Microsoft to prepare its own unveiling event, but on the other, it will put the unit in direct competition with at least the iPhone 8, which is expected sometime in September.

There is very little doubt that the Surface Phone will be released within the year, but the exact date is still up for debate. Microsoft has several ways in which to go about the same and the public will be watching out with eager ears and eyes.
